Mint Julep

Bourbon · mint · sugar · packed with crushed ice

You’ll need

  • 8 fresh mint leaves
  • ½ oz (15 ml) simple syrup
  • 2 oz (59 ml) bourbon
  • Crushed ice
  • Mint sprig, to garnish

Served in a julep cup.

How to make it

  1. Grab a julep cup.
  2. Drop 8 mint leaves into the glass.
  3. Pour ½ oz of simple syrup into the glass.
  4. Muddle gently to release the oils — press, don’t shred.
  5. Pour 2 oz of bourbon into the glass.
  6. Crack ice in a Lewis bag with a mallet, then pack the glass with the crushed ice, mounded over the top.
  7. Stir for about 15 seconds.
  8. Garnish with a mint sprig.
